What we measure, if you allow it

Decline, and none of the below is ever written — the analytics script is not even requested.

Both are set by Google Analytics, which we run through Firebase with its advertising features switched off, so it sets no advertising cookies. They carry a random identifier, not your name, your email or anything you have typed. We see counts and pages; we cannot see who you are.

Google asks for them to last 2 years, but your browser may keep them for less. Chrome, for one, keeps no cookie for more than 400 days, about 13 months.

What the contact form sets

One cookie and one item in your browser's storage, both needed for the form's spam check. Neither waits for the choice below, and turning measurement off removes neither.

  Lets Google reCAPTCHA check that a message sent through the contact form comes from a person.

It is set by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks messages for spam and abuse on our behalf, and only when you send the form: opening the contact page or clicking into the form sets nothing. The cookie belongs to Google's reCAPTCHA site, www.recaptcha.net, not to laldinsoft.com, and the pages of this site cannot read it.

When you send the form, the reCAPTCHA script also stores one item, _grecaptcha, in your browser's local storage for this site, as part of the same check. Local storage has no expiry date: the item stays until it is removed or you clear this site's data in your browser. What the check looks at is in the privacy policy.

Your choice

The choice itself is kept in your browser's local storage as lds.consent — not a cookie, and never sent anywhere. Changing it here takes effect immediately; turning measurement off also clears the two analytics cookies.

We ask before measuring across the UK and the EEA. Elsewhere we measure without asking first, which is why this page exists everywhere — the switch above is yours wherever you are.

Where the data goes

Measurement data goes to Google, who process it for us as Google Analytics 4, and to nobody else. We read it as aggregate reports — which pages were read, how people arrived, how many wrote to us. Google's own processing may happen outside the UK, under the terms they publish for the service.

The contact form's check goes to Google reCAPTCHA, which processes it for us too. The privacy policy says what it looks at and how long we keep messages.
